Lust on Film: Flashdance

It's the story of an 18 year old girl who welds at a steel mill during the day, dances at a bar by night, and dreams of one day being in the ballet.

Who doesn't love a movie with an amazing soundtrack [Irene Cara's Oscar winning "Flashdance...What a Feeling"], legendary costumes [ripped sweaters and leg warmers], and cultural influence that managed to last for decades? Flashdance was not critically accepted at first, but saw some box office success being the third highest grossing film of 1983.

Jennifer Beals gives an amazing tomboy performance as Alexandra "Alex" Owen. The tough as nails dancer with an amazing body who still manages to be sentimental enough to save her friends from becoming strippers. She falls in love with her boss and goes "bat shit crazy" when she suspects him of cheating. Will she ever find her way into the ballet?

Ever seen Jennifer Lopez's "I'm Glad"? You're terribly mistaken if you believe it to be an original concept. Scene by scene can be traced to Flashdance. There were even talks of Lopez revisiting the role for a remake.

And there were rumors of a sequel back in the 80's. Beal turning down the role a second time around didn't do much to get the ball rolling. "I've never been drawn to something virtue of how rich or famous it will make me. I turned down so much money, and my agents were just losing their mind."

So do yourself a favor and sweat to the moves of Beal in this Lust on Film.
