Video Lust: Beyonce's 'End of Time' Live at Roseland

I recently purchased Beyonce's Live at Roseland: Elements of 4 on DVD and have fallen in love with the 4 album all over again.

The venue is the intimate Roseland Ballroom in NYC and the performance does not dissapoint. No fancy costume changes or big screen graphics. Just a live band, amazing dance routines, and Beyonce.

Not only is the musical breakdown of her career [from Destiny's Child to 4] a fun flashback, but her performance of "End of Time" was a knockout that you shouldn't miss. You'll aslo see backstage videos from the concert and making of the music videos for the album 4. AND you get all the music videos from 4 as well. Owning the "Run the World [Girls]" video on DVD was a must have for me.

Video Lust : Beyoncé's 'Countdown'

Despite the baby bump, Lust Icon Beyoncé manages to pull of all kinds of sexy for her video, "Countdown".

The video is heavily influenced by 60's pop art featuring Mrs. Carter in an all black ensemble that's an amazing mix of Audrey Hepburn and Michael Jackson. She tip-toes, twirls, and shakes among ballet style dancers [and a marching band] in scenes that remind me of the Gap commercials everyone used to go crazy over. Later she appears in dance studios reminiscent of Flashdance and Fame.

The always fashionable Knowles is also featured in brightly colored button-up blouses and leotards with vibrant nail lacquer and eye makeup [which I'm sure will find it's way onto all of her followers] with a Patricia Field sunhat. But, my favorite scene would have to be the sparkly minidress and retro bob [pictured above] which is rumored to be a reference to her Dreamgirls film.

Video Lust : Tom Ford's SS11 Women's Collection

Another one of my favorite videos with our Lust Icon Tom Ford! Not just for Mr. Ford, but for his genius behind the collection and the presentation.

SS11 was the first collection for Ford's womenswear line. The fashion world was in anticipation to see the glamorous looks that he would unveil. But, rather than a huge production during fashion week like his competitors [if you could call them that], in true rebel style Ford presented the collection by invitation only at a top secret showing. No cameras, or even cell phones, were permitted at the showing. Instead, Ford would debut the collection to the world via this short film, and with photographs from the event by Terry Richardson which were later featured in a French Vogue exclusive.

Of course, Ms. Wintour was front row with models like Karen Elson, Amber Valeta, and Coco Rocha walking the runway with celebrities Beyoncé, Lauren Hutton, Lou Doillon, Daphne Guinness, and the amazing Julianne Moore.

Riccardo Tisci for 'Watch the Throne'

The much anticipated album, "Watch the Throne", from Kanye West and Jay-Z has officially landed on iTunes and in stores. Music lovers are already praising the album and anticipating a tour to support the record which features Beyoncé, Otis Redding, Frank Ocean, and Mr. Hudson.

Fashion followers have been given a hip-hop treat as well. Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy was enlisted for the artwork for the first single, "H.A.M.", and continued with the entire albums artwork. The "Creative Director" for "Watch the Throne" designed the album cover, interior artwork, and disc artwork. Taking a nod from the rottweiler themed AW11 menswear show, both West and Jay-Z have beastly self portraits [Jay-Z's pictured above].

A statement from the fashion house: "the artwork’s bold colours and angular lines are symbols of masculinity for two of the most iconic rap figures of our time. Riccardo Tisci naturally incorporates references to his long time signature codes, from meticulously engineered prints to blurred religious images, the strength of these visuals being to bring his Couture techniques and vision to image printing.” 

Video Lust : Rihanna's 'Hard'

Leave it to Lust Icon Rihanna to take all the elements of military and make them couture. Before Beyoncé was roling in the dirt in high fashion, Rihanna took designer gowns to the mud and the battlefields with explosions all around.

"Hard" was the second single from Rihanna's fourth studio album, Rated R. The video premiered on MTV in December of 2009. Described as a cross between Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" and Christina Aguielra's "Dirty", the video features Rihanna in a number of miliarty scenes; ordering troops while firing a machine gun, riding atop a tank in a Mickey Mouse-esqué helmet, stomping through the desert among field mines, and in an ammo storage center in a nude bustier with black electric tape X's on her breasts [my favorite scene].

Rihanna explains, "It's couture-military. Everything is surrounded by the whole idea of something military. We have tanks, we have troops, we've got helicopters, we've got explosions…tight gear, lots of cute outfits, lots of bullets. Crazy."

Video Lust : Beyoncé's 'Run the World [Girls]'

The first time I watched Lust Icon Beyoncé's video for "Run the World [Girls]" all I could see were the lustable Gareth Puth gold geometric heels [pictured above]. But, after a second glance I couldn't help but notice all of the incredible designer label fashion.

How do you run the world in style? Start the video atop a black stallion [we're talking about a horse here] in an all white Todd Lynn ensemble. Stand at attention with an Alexander McQueen clad army of girls [with a lion of course]. Followed by striking a pose in a Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown. Perform some serious trendsetting dance moves in Norma Kamali fringe shorts and a gold Giuseppe Zanotti harness [the fringed heels are Alexander Wang, and is that shrug Gucci?]. Take some oversized hyena's by the chain in Givenchy couture. March in the dirt in a Gareth Puth starlight gown and gold geometric heels adorned in Lariucci claw rings and earrings. Crawl around in the dust in a Norma Kamali cutout Aztec jumpsuit. And finally, face a SWAT team in two different Emilio Pucci gowns, one made of both silk and sequins [pair the yellow dress with black knee high Sergio Rossi gladiator boots]. Phew! I don't know about you, but I'm sweating with designer lust. And I'm sure I missed a few.

Lust Icon : Beyoncé

Who runs the world? Well, who's runnin' the fashion world in this month's W Magazine? Mrs. Beyoncé Carter [that is her name now, right?]. Scantily clad in all the latest Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, and a little Gucci. I'm a little bummed she didn't show her fierceness with the Givenchy Panther Hat, but we do see the Louis Vuitton Masks showed up to the party [mulitple times].

We all know the back story to Beyoncé; puttin' on a show since the day she was born at beauty shops in Houston, establishing herself in Destiny's Child, and a phenomenol solo career in music, fashion, film, and playing wifey to Jay-Z. All the aspects of a Lust Icon.

Beyoncé recently dropped her fourth studio album, 4, and it's yet another classic. Rolling Stone reviews, "Beyoncé has made a career of setting trends, and on 4, she leaves fashionable production styles behind. There's no Eurodisco thump; live instruments take the place of digital beats on many tracks. Half the songs are ballads, but all kinds of sounds filter through the mix - vintage soul, hard rock, reggae, adult contemporary." Has she ever put out a bad album? or video? or performance? 4 stars in my book.
