Amy Winehouse by Hedi Slimane
I thought it would be a good idea for the Lust List to wait for all of the publicity to pass following Amy Winehouse's death to celebrate her music. The tragic death of Winehouse has ironically led to continued success for the artist, her album sales leaped into the Top 10 following her death. Rightfully so that the world remember such an enormous talent.
There was an article featured in Vogue Hommes International, published before the stars death, titled "Mythologies" in which the famous interviewed or shared stories of the famous. Hedi Slimane covered Amy Winehouse. Slimane, for those not familiar with the name, is a French fashion designer famous for his work with Dior Homme and his photographic work with musicians and supermodels like Winehouse [the image used above] and Kate Moss.
You can check out the article below and you should definitely take the time to enjoy her songs. Songs like "Valerie", "Back to Black", or "He Can Only Hold Her" [my favorites].
Amy Winehouse by Hedi Slimane
"There are two types of musician: those who invent a stage persona for themselves, and those whose lives are a stage. I met Amy in Spain in summer 2007. She started by teaching me to play poker. I photographed her. She would strike poses like a glamour model, which rather wrong-footed me. She was not yet being hounded in Barcelona or London. But you already got the impression that she was just putting up with her talent, enduring it, and that her songs or stage appearances were for Blake Fielder's eyes only. Her global success is secondary. Amy has always sounded just right. I've always been moved by her charisma, honesty, and fragility. Sometimes she can lash out or get into trouble, and she carries her genius and loneliness around, listlessly. But she's untouchable. That's who she is: Amy Winehouse."
